Product Description

VG500 Vertical Reference Gyro is an intelligent vertical gyro for measuring roll and pitch angles in dynamic environments. The VG500 incorporates advanced MEMS Rate Gyro technology resulting in superior performance.
VG500 calculates stabilized roll and pitch angles by integrating the angular rate sensor outputs. The adaptive vertical erection algorithm is used to compensate for gyro bias-induced errors based on a long term gravity reference provided by the accelerometers.
VG500 measures acceleration and rotation rate about three orthogonal axes. VG500 employs on-board digital processing to provide a factory calibrated unit with internal compensation for
deterministic error sources. It is widely used in the applications include UAV flight control, avionics, and platform stabilization.

What is the Stabilized Platform and Strapdown Technologies

• There are many different designs of INS with different performance characteristics, but they fall generally into two categories:

– gimbaled or stabilized platform techniques, and

– strapdown

• The original applications of INS technology used stable platform

techniques. In such systems, the inertial sensors are mounted on a

stable platform and mechanically isolated from the rotational

motion of the vehicle. Platform systems are still in use, particularly

for those applications requiring very accurate estimates of

navigation data, such as ships and submarines.

• Modern systems have removed most of the mechanical complexity of platform systems by having the sensors attached rigidly, or “strapped down”, to the body of the host vehicle. The potential benefits of this approach are lower cost, reduced size, and greater reliability compared with equivalent platform systems. The major disadvantage is a substantial increase in computing complexity.
